At Georgia Gwinnett College Rugby Club, we're committed to building a strong and competitive team through comprehensive player development. Our goal is to provide a supportive environment where both recruits and existing players can grow and thrive.
The club is seeking individuals interested in taking on officer roles to help with the formation of the club and its submission for official recognition by the College
New Officers: Officers may include positions such as president, vice president, treasurer, secretary, and other roles essential for the club's operation. These roles do not necessarily need to be active players. They need to be individuals who will take on a role and be a core part of the club's success. Any individuals interested in an officer position will need to be active students or faculty of GGC.
During this phase, new players are introduced to the team and undergo an initial assessment to determine their readiness to participate in matches.
New Player Readiness: New players must attend at least 2 on-field training sessions before being allowed to play in competitive matches. This ensures that players have a basic understanding of the game and the necessary skills.
In this phase, players focus on developing their skills and abilities through structured training sessions and exercises.
Physical Training: Players engage in physical training to improve their endurance, body control, and precision. Training sessions include exercises to increase muscle strength and promote healthier habits.
Mental Development: Players work on enhancing their cognitive abilities, decision-making skills, and game awareness. Emphasis is placed on thinking quickly, making decisive choices, and fostering creative freedom on the field.
During this phase, players undergo safety assessments and proficiency evaluations to ensure they meet the required standards for safe participation in matches.
Safety Assessment: Players are evaluated to ensure they understand and can implement proper safety techniques during gameplay. This includes tackling techniques, body positioning, and injury prevention strategies.
Proficiency Evaluation: Players' skills and abilities are assessed to determine their readiness to compete at a competitive level. Coaches provide feedback and guidance to help players improve and reach their full potential.
Once players have completed the development phases and demonstrated proficiency in their skills and safety protocols, they are ready to compete at a competitive level.
Competitive Matches: Players represent Georgia Gwinnett College Rugby Club in competitions, leagues, and tournaments, showcasing their skills and sportsmanship on the field.
Joining National Collegiate Rugby Division II SouthEastern Rugby Conference: As part of our commitment to elevating our program and providing our players with the highest level of competition, we are actively seeking to join the National Collegiate Rugby Division II SouthEastern Rugby Conference. This prestigious conference offers opportunities for our team to compete against top collegiate rugby programs in the Southeast region, further enhancing our players' development and the profile of our club.
Participation in 15's and 7's: We are excited to announce that our participation in the National Collegiate Rugby Division II SouthEastern Rugby Conference will encompass both 15's and 7's formats. This dual participation allows our players to gain experience and exposure in both styles of play, further enriching their rugby journey and broadening their skill set on the field.
Men's and Women's Teams: In our pursuit of excellence and inclusivity, we are actively seeking to house both men's and women's teams within our rugby program. By providing opportunities for players of all genders to participate in the sport they love, we aim to foster a diverse and vibrant rugby community at Georgia Gwinnett College.
